Salt Baked Chicken

since 1942

an almost forgotten delicacy

Chakey’s Serangoon Salt Baked Chicken has come a long way since its opening in 1962 which was named Heong Kee Salt Baked Chicken, however through the passing of generations the name was changed to Chakey’s Serangoon Salt Baked Chicken. This is a family owned business that has been handed down for three generations. The recipe is still the same, enriched through every generation. It is a traditional Hakka dish that was started by the owner’s great grandfather where pioneer Singaporeans will tell you the story of this dish.

Freshly prepared

Real authentic Singaporean cuisine

Our methods of preparing have been the same since our first opening in Serangoon Road giving rise to the name 后港盐鸡焗 (Serangoon Salt-Baked Chicken). It is a truly authentic Singaporean cuisine that is almost forgotten by the younger generations.

The chicken is wrapped in baking paper keeping tenderising the meat with our famous sauce recipe together with the heat and salt penetrating to give its flavour. Together with our quality seasoning of herbs and spices this unique flavour is not overwhelmingly salty as no rock salt comes in contact.

It was like unwrapping a nicely warm, aromatic parcel; with great anticipation. Even the dog was dancing about and wagging his tail while we unpack this 🙂

Beary

Many Singaporeans have praised the quality and taste of the chicken and in particular the sauce…

What a pleasant surprise; I’m definitely going to try to get this again.
